We're not getting enough out of the books we read

Most people barely scratch the surface in getting the most out of the books they read. I've realized there's a massive difference between a book I want to read before I slowly drift to sleep or in the car on my way somewhere versus truly learn and grow from. To get the most out of a book like King, Warrior, Magician, Lover you need to get in the true student mindset and bring your notebook.

Of course jotting notes down pen to paper is great for the "aha" moments, lessons that really resonated with you and helps us lean into actually implementing lessons learned into our lives. It's no surprise note-taking increases what we gain and take away from a book, but rarely do books come with a "How to implement in real life" guide book. Of course it's ironic this one happened to. More on the two books, lessons I've integrated and growth I am experiencing each day in a future post.

What I've realized is that we are missing that community. Missing discussing the themes and lessons we each take from a book with one another. Missing a leader like the teachers we had in school to help guide us on the major points the author was driving at, to pose thoughtful questions to steer our discussions or challenge our thinking. There's so much we stand to miss out on. For anyone like me that loved discussing novels in English class, past events in history and current events in debate class we're missing the structure and community that led to maximizing the growth we are capable of achieving no matter the subject.

I bet you can think of the scene unfolding in your favorite teacher's classroom filled with raucous discussion being led by Mr./Miss/Mrs. (insert favorite teacher's name here). A chance to come into a safe place with respect for one another, excited to share our aha moments, questions or ideas on what we've encountered and equally excited to hear others' own takes - isn't it that exact classroom environment that gave us an appreciation of both sides of a conflict in history? A respect for differences in view? That's what I seek to create here (without the dull homework and stressful tests). Here when We Win With Webb we're coming together as a community of growth-seekers to get the most out of the content we consume. This is merely the beginning, but every great story has to start somewhere, I hope you join me.
